About the Department
The Department of English, Shyampur Siddheswari Mahavidyalaya, founded in 1964, is the centre of advanced learning in its discipline. The main objective of the Department is to spread the knowledge of English literature and language among the rural community of Shyampur and its surrounding areas. The Department regularly conducts Seminars, Special Lectures, Co-curricular activities, Literary Competitions, Wall Magazine publications, etc. Areas of teaching of this Department run from Old English British Literature to Post-Modern Literature, American Literature, Indian Writing in English, and Post-colonial Literature.
The Department of English has also started a Certificate Course on Spoken English from the session 2020-’21. This course aims to enhance the knowledge of English language and communication skills. It also helps to enrich the skill of writing and speaking English properly with confidence. The Department of English aims to create a platform for students to succeed in their professional and personal lives. The result of both U.G. Honours and General of our Department is also remarkable. Some of the students have also qualified in different State and National level competitive examinations.
