The Department of Geography of Shyampur Siddheswari Mahavidyalaya started its journey in the year 2011. In this phase of initiation, the Department offered General degree course in Geography in Under Graduate level for both arts and science stream students. In the year of 2015, the Department got the affiliation for Geography Honours (Under Graduate) course from University of Calcutta.
The Honours course in Geography (1+1+1 System) was introduced with both B.A. Hons and B.Sc. Honours degree which were offered to the candidates for Geography Honours based on their general course subject combination. CBCS course in UG study (Six-month Semester system) was offered during the year 2018-2022. Presently, the Department of Geography offers newly initiated 4- Year B.A/ B.Sc. (CCF 2022) Major course of studies for newly admitted students in Geography Honours along with Minor course in the year 2023. The Department is equipped with maps, field specimens and various manual and advanced digital instruments and devices for field study and laboratory experiment. The students got the both class teaching in manual, digital and hybrid both. The Departmental teachers offers the teaching both in traditional class level and realistic field level and the main moto of the teachers to make the learning more interesting to the students community with the application of book based study in laboratory and real world. The Department of Geography is well known for its well academic performance of the students. The Department has sanctioned intake capacity of 35 students. Since 2015, six batch students achieved the Geography Honours degree with satisfactory performance in B.A./B.Sc. Three Year Degree course from this college. The graduate students of Geography of our college pursue the Post Graduate Degree from University of Calcutta and other esteemed Universities along with D. El. Ed. course, B. Ed. Course and other professional, academic and administrative courses from different reputed organizations and institutes of India.
