About the Department

The history of Chemistry Department dates back to 1964 when the college was first affiliated to Pre-University with two teachers named Prof Sudhir Kanta Bhattcharya &Prof. Nirmal Kumar Sarkar. The college was affiliated to B.Sc general course in 1966 and in 2003 the department started the honours course. The department all so offers various Interdisciplinary Course and Skill Enhancement Courses which are very important in the field of Chemical Industries and in daily life. The overall performance of our students in the university examinations as well as in the national level competitive examinations is quite good. Many of the undergraduate students go for higher studies to other reputed postgraduate institutes in India and also succeed in getting very good placements for research at leading Institutes in India and abroad. The Department holds invited lectures and seminars calling eminent Professors and leading Chemists as resource persons. Students are enormously benefited by attending these lectures and seminars. The alumni from this department have proved themselves in different academic and non-academic fields.



Infrastructure

Departmental Library: There is a well-maintained Department with more than 100 text and reference books as well as a Book Bank of which students borrow books regularly.

Laboratory: Well Maintained laboratory for General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry and Physical Chemistry.

Instruments: The instrument lab (Physical) is equipped with digital spectrophotometer, UV-Vis Fuming Chamber spectrophotometers, pH-meter, conductivity meter, potentiometer, colorimeter, polarimeter (both analogue & digital), digital balance (high precision), temperature control water bath and distillation unit.

Teaching Aid: Computers, Projector and ITC facility.
