About the Department
The Department of Political Science was established in the year 1967 under the guidance of Late Sukumar Chatterjee the then Principal of Shyampur Siddheswari Mahavidhyalaya. Since its establishment The Department has been offering Undergraduate Honours and General Degree Courses. The Department of Political Science follows the CBCS Syllabus offered by the Calcutta University and has also started following the new NEP Syllabus of Calcutta University for new batch of students starting 2023. The Department offers generic political science taught courses on Western Political Thought and Theory, Indian Political Thought, Comparative Politics, International Relations, India Government and Politics, Political Sociology, Public Administration. Along with these the department also offers various Skill Enhancement Courses such as Democratic Awareness through Legal Literacy and Elementary Aspects of Social Research. Since 2022 the Department of Political Science has also been offering Certificate Course on Inequalities and Sustainable Development Goals. The Department has a sanctioned strength of 50 students for Honours course. The students are selected through the admission criteria as laid down by the Calcutta University. Our graduates are pursuing successful career in various government offices as bureaucrats, as political leaders of their respective constituency, in academia, in mass media and in various other fields of life.
